It has been a busy February over at SportyPrintsbyMBM and I found that my biggest seller was my one Hockey Coach print that I had created a couple years ago. I decided since it was so popular I should add a few more options for people to purchase as gifts for their coaches. I hope to create more ‘thank you coach’ prints for softball, baseball and figure skating and will be adding those in the next few weeks.
My sister and her beautiful family came and spent the weekend with us, and of course, I insisted they come outside to my little rink and let me take a few pictures. Two out of three of their boys play hockey, and in no time at all, three out of three will be playing. It was a bit chilly so we quickly fired off a few shots and ran back into the house for hot chocolate. Here are a few of my favourites. It’s always quite amazing what you can capture in about twelve minutes.
Meet the Funk’s! I met up with them on a frozen pond in Portage la Prairie and captured some fun family images. They are a busy bunch, with three out of four boys involved in hockey, as well as Kelly coaching and Nancy managing. They really do live in a rink most of the winter, and I really don’t think they’d want it any other way. We figured this would be the perfect place to capture their family in the winter, and I’m so glad we did. I loved how all of these images turned out. Their youngest son Quincy was a trooper and managed to stay out on the pond for over an hour. He really deserved the Happy Meal he got at the end as a reward (aka bribe)!
Thanks Funky Bunch! Here are some of my favourites of yesterday morning’s session.
Today marks one year since my Etsy store, SportyprintsbyMBM, went live. I am not going to lie, it was a nerve wracking day for me. For years I had been creating these prints for my own children and their friends. People kept telling me I should sell them, and I would just laugh it off. More and more I would hear from people whom I gave these to as gifts that I really should think of selling them. As I made the decision to get out of wedding photography and start helping my husband with his business it seemed like the right time to actually throw caution to the wind and see if anyone really, truly would buy these pieces. And much to my surprise and delight, people did. I have sold prints all over the world…France, Italy, California, Alberta, New York, Nova Scotia and so on. I’m always thrilled when I hear the little cash register ding on my phone (that’s my notification from Etsy that I made a sale) and I am always excited to see where in the world one of my prints is going to next.
Since opening my store on Etsy over 20,000 people have visited my little business and I’ve been so pleased with the kind words and positive responses from everyone that has either stopped by to take a look and to those who have actually purchased prints. I remember saying to my sister, “I’ll be happy if I even sell one or two prints a month”…well I can tell you, I have sold a lot more than that and I am truly grateful to each and every person who has supported my venture and ordered this art for their own walls.
So thank you. Thank you to my friends and family who pushed me to open this store. Thank you to any one who has taken the time to comment on my work with their kind words. And thank you to those who have purchased my work. I am truly grateful for the support.
Happy Anniversary to Me! It’s been a great first year. Here’s to growing my business even more in 2016!
Well another Christmas has come and gone. I always look so forward to it all and then it seems to end in a blink of an eye. But it’s always fun while it lasts. We ventured “home” this year for a week at our cabin and spent almost every day with family. Luckily both my brother and sister have outdoor rinks at their homes so we were able to enjoy a lot of fun hours playing hockey. With twenty of us in total now, we can fill a rink very fast! It’s pretty cool for me to look out at the rink and see my Dad skating around with all his grandkids, and I think he loves every second of it as well.
I thought I would share a few of my favourites from our holidays with you.
I hope you all had an incredible Christmas as well and were able to spend it with those who make your heart happy.
I met up with this wonderful couple and their two pups today and we couldn’t have asked for a dreamier day. Thanks T & J for trusting me with these special memories. Here are some sneak peeks from today’s magical session.
Yesterday was one of those afternoons that we will all remember for years to come. It was supposed to be an average day where the kids went to school and Kris and I went to work. At about 11:30 my … Continue reading →
When you book a session in December you always wonder what the weather will be like. But I never dreamed it would be Plus 6 on December 3rd. What a beautiful day to meet up with Deanne and Karl-Michael. These … Continue reading →
Meet Lynn & Tia. We booked this session over a month ago and we never dreamed we would have such a beautiful day on November 14th to capture these special memories. I had an absolutely wonderful time with these fun loving girls and the hour simply flew by. I am absolutely honoured to capture these images and, with their permission, tell you a little bit about them.
When Lynn was a young teenager she made the brave decision to entrust her child for adoption. Not only did she give her life, but she chose adoption so her daughter could have “a life”. Lynn told me she always wondered about her and not a day went by when she wasn’t in her thoughts. Tia told me that she always knew she was adopted and her parents encouraged her to find her birth mother when she was ready. Four years ago, she was ready, and these two met at Assiniboine Park. I can’t imagine that moment for Lynn when she laid eyes on this beautiful girl that she had so bravely entrusted to another loving mother years before. As they told me this story I teared up, I hid behind my camera, but I think they knew. It absolutely touched my heart to hear them tell “their story’ and how wonderful it has worked out for them both. I can tell they are very close (and very much alike in mannerisms and looks) and it truly warmed my heart to see them together.
I am so happy for both of you and I wish you many, many more years of wonderful memories together. Here are just a few sneak peeks from today’s lovely session. Thanks Tia & Lynn, I’m honoured you chose me to capture these for you.
Since opening my Etsy Store in February I have had a few requests for softball images. Being the Boymom that I am, I just didn’t have any images of this sport. Lucky for me one of my favourite girls is an avid softball player and we finally found time to take a few softball pictures to include in my store. Thanks Morgan for helping me out with this!
